Open Positions
Penn State Alumni Admissions Coordinator for Central Ohio
Our Chapter has an immediate opening for this volunteer leadership position and the Board is looking for enthusiastic Penn State alumni interested in overseeing admissions recruiting in Central Ohio.
The Alumni Admissions Coordinator is a volunteer position that acts as the liaison between local high schools and their students and Penn State Admissions. He or she is the leader of all Alumni Admissions volunteers in our area and the coordinator of our efforts to help high school students learn about the exceptional educational and life experience opportunities available at Penn State. These activities include representing Penn State at college fairs, phoning students offered admission to Penn State to answer their questions and provide guidance and interacting with parents and high school guidance counselors.
This position has an at-will term that includes a position on the Scholarship Committee and an ex-officio seat on the Chapter Board.
Chapter Board Member
Our Chapter is looking for enthusiastic Penn State alumni to serve on our Board of Directors. Board members of the Board have voting positions that decide on the events and initiatives of our Chapter. Each Board member is responsible for taking part in a committee (fundraising, football, social/social media, service, etc.) and participating in in monthly meetings and a variety of Chapter events (viewing parties, happy hours, service projects, etc.). The Board member term is 3 years. Board members must be current, dues-paying members of the local Chapter. There are currently 5 positions open.
This is a volunteer position, but all Board members in good standing at the time of a PSU-OSU away (one played in Columbus) are guaranteed the right to purchase 2 tickets for the game at face value, provided we are given an allotment.
How to apply:
If you are interested in either of these openings, please email a resume and a one-page bio to psucolumbus@gmail.com by 2/13/12. Please be sure to include your contact information, hometown, graduation year, campus, and degree program. Pictures are not necessary, but are welcome. Bios will be posted on the website for Board member candidates. Chapter membership will vote on Board members. Current Board members will elect the Alumni Admissions Coordinator.

Ticket City Bowl Game
Penn State vs. University of Houston
Monday, January 2, 12:00 Noon
Gresso's 961 South High Street, Columbus, OH (614) 444-0131
Penn State friends,
Please join us for the final TV Tailgate of the season for the Ticket City Bowl Game, on Monday January 2. The game’s at noon and we’ll close out the season the same way we started – with a party at Gresso’s. We have the upstairs room reserved, and with lots of TVs both upstairs and downstairs there are plenty of screens to catch all of the afternoon’s bowl game action. Our events are always family friendly and you’re welcome to bring kids, family, and friends. Our events are also budget friendly - there’s no charge for attending our TV Tailgates and your chances of winning a prize in one of our drawings are always pretty good!
On behalf of all the members of the board for your local Penn State Alumni Association I’d like to wish you, your friends, and your loved ones a happy and healthy new year. In spite of all of the unexpected twists and turns towards the end of the football season, 2011 was another year of amazing and positive growth for our local chapter. With your support, creative input, and participation, I am certain that 2012 will prove to be even better.
We’ll have new event announcements in the not too distant future. Watch our website, facebook page, and your email for those updates.
Together, and now more than ever – WE ARE …!!!

Charity Fundraiser Event
and Silent Auction was a Huge Success!
Quaker Steak & Lube at Polaris
Friday, November 18th
6:30 pm - 10:30 pm
8500 Lyra Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43240 (614) 430-9464
Thanks
to all of you who played a part in making this event such an amazing
success. Our Friday night fundraiser at Quaker Steak and Lube drew a
crowd of 200+. We’ve received lots of compliments on the event. Some
folks who regularly travel to out of town games told us it was the best
pregame party they had ever attended. We’ll report the final numbers in a
separate communication, but I am confident that we’ll be sharing great
news about the total contributions to our local scholarship fund and
Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Last Saturday’s pre-game
tailgates were busy as well. Thanks to the early birds who caravanned in
together and endured a chilly set-up, we had a primo spot right next to
the Alumni Association tent. The program inside of the big tent
demonstrated continued sensitivity while being both inspiring and
spirited. Outside, we had a good time and our attendance was great
featuring a nice blend of alumni, local fans, out-of-towners, and Penn
State students. And, in typical generous fashion, our friends and fans
raised still more money for a good cause. This time, nearly $400 for
#ProudPSUforRAINN. Add in the win over the Ohio State Buckeyes and it
made for a pretty good weekend.

What to expect at our Football TV Tailgate Parties
- Typically, anywhere from 20 to 40+ Nittany Lion fans per game. Our growing group
includes fans of all ages, joining us as singles, couples, groups of
friends, and families with kids.
- Drawings for
Penn State goodies and prizes. Everyone who shows up gets at
least 1 raffle ticket. Prizes include all kinds of stuff: hats, shirts,
mugs, license plate holders, bobble heads, PEZ dispensers – you name it.
Every once in a while, we even have things like sticky buns and
Creamery ice cream. If it has something about Penn State on it and we
can find it – we raffle it off!
- Collections for our local PSU scholarship fund. We pass the can every week
and collect money for the scholarship fund.
- Collections for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. We’ve selected the Mid-Ohio
Food Bank as one of our charities of choice this year and every week we’ll
collect non-perishable food items for that worthy, and local, cause.
- Good fun
in the company of other good-spirited Penn State fans.
Gresso’s
is a great restaurant and bar in downtown Columbus with great food and
the staff there goes out of their way to make sure that we have a great
time. They’ve come up with Penn State themed menu items and drink
specials. The folks at Gresso’s have also designed new white tee shirts
for us for this year – perfect for white out (or white house) games like
the one against Alabama in September.
